I like to write.
I never thought I’d say those four words.

Of course, I wrote tons of papers in college. Took many communications and marketing classes to fulfill my undergraduate degree in Communications and then my master’s degree in Integrated Marketing. So, you could say that good grammar was instilled in me.

But to say that I really liked to write was a stretch. Sure, I was good at writing papers, company emails and putting the right words together to present myself as needed. But I never really thought of writing as one of my creative outlets.

It took me years to connect the dots. A few influential people giving me feedback and encouragement. And then reading Rachel Hollis’ book, Girl Go Wash Your Face. Her chapter about writing really struck a chord.

My writing style isn’t for everyone. Some people will think I’m boring. Others will have no interest in what I have to say. Some will even say, I can’t write. And that’s ok.

Because what I’ve found is that writing is subjective. And the most important aspect is getting the message across. Clear and concise. To the people who are interested in what I have to say.

You see, a brand is no different. It should have a personality and style that connects with some people and not others. Because the ‘one size fits all’ mentality rarely works. In fact, let’s just throw it out the door and be different. You know, stand out from the crowd. And tailor your message to an audience who will care.
